College football Week 6 belongs to one game. No. 2 Georgia visits No. 6 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, Oct. 10, and both teams are 5-0. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, according to Bleacher Report’s full-slate preview.
Georgia vs. Alabama Sets the Week 6 Tone
It is a top-10 SEC showdown, and the stage matches the stakes. In fact, On3’s viewing guide says ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast from Tuscaloosa. That tells you where the sport’s attention will be this weekend. Georgia arrives with real momentum, too, after its jump to No. 2 in the AP Top 25 following a 63-3 rout.
This is also a familiar script. Alabama won the 2024 and 2025 regular-season meetings with Georgia, and both came by narrow margins. As a result, another coin-flip finish would surprise nobody.
The Crimson Tide arrive hot. Their last outing was a 56-23 win at No. 16 Mississippi State, as NBC Sports reported. That is a statement result against a ranked road opponent.
Georgia, however, has its own case. Quarterback Gunner Stockton went 25-of-32 for 295 yards and three touchdowns in his last game. NBC also notes that only Western Kentucky has topped 100 rushing yards against the Bulldogs this season. So the Georgia defense is tough to run on, and Alabama has to find another way to move the ball.
Betting Market Sees a Near Pick’em in Week 6 of College Football
The market sees almost no gap between these two. Alabama opened as a three-point home underdog, then bettors quickly pushed it to a 1.5-point favorite, per ESPN’s Week 6 betting lines. That swing shows how evenly bettors view the matchup.
Bleacher Report’s pick is Alabama 31, Georgia 27. The same preview suggests Georgia may get another shot at the Tide in the SEC Championship Game or the playoff. Lines can move before kickoff, so check the latest number before the game.
The Rest of This Week’s College Football Schedule
Georgia-Alabama is not the only game worth your Saturday on the college football Week 6 slate. At 3:30 p.m. ET, No. 1 Texas (4-0) meets Oklahoma (2-2) in Dallas. Meanwhile, the AP Top 5 currently reads Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State, according to Bleacher Report’s playoff projections.
The only other matchup of ranked teams is No. 21 UCLA (4-0) at No. 13 Oregon (3-1). Oregon is favored by 11.5. UCLA, though, has been a handful under first-year coach Bob Chesney. The Bruins average 44.8 points per game and 281.5 rushing yards per game, and running back Wayne Knight has 445 yards and nine touchdowns, On3 reports.
Elsewhere, Indiana faces unbeaten Nebraska, and LSU plays Kentucky. For LSU, the off-field drama is just as loud, since the SEC’s lawsuit against LSU and Lane Kiffin keeps escalating. The week also opens with a Friday night game, as Florida State travels to Louisville. In all, ESPN’s schedule lists 58 games from Tuesday, Oct. 6 through Saturday, Oct. 10.
What College Football Week 6 Means for the Playoff
Every Saturday now moves the playoff picture, and the Week 6 college football games are no exception. The first official CFP committee rankings are less than a month away, so this weekend’s results will help shape the early conversation. The pressure is real elsewhere too. Texas A&M “must win out” to have a chance of returning to the playoff, and the Aggies visit Missouri, a 3.5-point favorite per Polymarket.
Missouri is in a good spot after a 45-17 win over Florida moved the Tigers from 25th to 14th in the AP poll. Florida slipped to 16th.
So circle Saturday night. Georgia and Alabama are both unbeaten, the line is razor thin, and the rankings will look different by Sunday morning. Afterward, our college football recap of the biggest wins and rankings shakeups will help you sort out what it all means.
