Dallas, TX Is Going Big: Frisco’s Grand Park Breaks Ground and will be bigger than Central Park, NY

Frisco Grand Park Breaks Ground: Texas’ 1,000+ Acre Park Bigger Than Central Park

Everything is bigger in Texas—and now that includes parks.

This week, the city of Frisco officially breaks ground on Grand Park, a massive green space project that’s already drawing comparisons to Central Park. However, this isn’t just a comparison—it’s a statement. At more than 1,000 acres, Grand Park will surpass Central Park in size and redefine what a modern urban park can be.

Where It’s Happening

Grand Park stretches across a prime corridor in North Texas. It runs from the Dallas North Tollway west toward Lake Lewisville.

As a result, the park sits in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. This positioning makes it both a recreational destination and a long-term economic driver for the area.

The Big Numbers

  • Total Size: Approximately 1,011 acres
  • Comparison: Larger than Central Park (843 acres)
  • Development Style: Multi-phase
  • Design Plan: Five distinct zones

In other words, this project goes far beyond a traditional park. It functions more like a green ecosystem within a rapidly expanding city.

What’s Coming to Grand Park

The vision for Grand Park extends well beyond open fields. Instead, it blends nature, entertainment, and innovation into one cohesive destination.

Planned features include:

  • Lakes and water features
  • Miles of trails for walking, running, and cycling
  • An amphitheater for concerts and large events
  • An innovation district designed for future development
  • Expansive green spaces for recreation and community use

Together, these elements create a place where people can gather, stay active, and experience the outdoors in a modern setting.

Phase One: Civic Park

The first phase, known as Civic Park, is already moving forward.

  • Size: More than 68 acres
  • Focus: Immediate accessibility for the community
  • Purpose: Establish the foundation for future phases

Civic Park will serve as the entry point to the broader vision, offering early access while the larger development continues to take shape.

Why This Matters

This project reflects a broader shift in how cities are being built and expanded.

First, North Texas continues to experience rapid population growth, particularly in Frisco. As more people move into the area, the demand for high-quality public spaces increases.

Second, urban planning is evolving. Cities are placing greater emphasis on livability, green space, and community-centered design.

Finally, the economic impact could be significant. Developments of this scale often drive increases in surrounding real estate values, attract businesses, and create long-term opportunities for growth.

Frisco has already established itself as a hub for sports and corporate development. Grand Park strengthens that position by adding a major lifestyle component.

Bigger Than Central Park, But Built for the Future

While comparisons to Central Park are inevitable, the vision behind Grand Park is distinctly modern.

Central Park represents a historic urban retreat. In contrast, Grand Park is being designed as a forward-looking, multi-use environment that integrates recreation, events, and innovation.

Rather than replicating an iconic space, Frisco is building something that reflects the needs and expectations of today’s cities.

Final Take

Grand Park is not just another development project. It represents a bold investment in the future of North Texas.

If executed successfully, it has the potential to become one of the largest urban parks in the United States, a major destination for visitors, and a defining feature of the region for decades to come.

And it all begins now.
